Boda boda in Kisumu

The first Boda boda appeared to Kisumu in the early 90s. This transport system has developed somewhat in early 2000 mainly thanks to the Finance Act, Finance Minister Chris Okemo, which exempted from taxes the purchase of bicycles and by the introduction in 2004 by the Minister of Transport and Telecommunications John Michuki, a strict legislation for security in transport with the matatu (small buses) which has raised the rates of transport on four wheels. Many boda boda come from fish factory: the reduction of fish in Lake Victoria, due to excessive exploitation of resources by multinationals has led to the loss of numerous jobs. Others are immigrants who return after having lost their white-collar work in Nairobi or in other cities have returned to their region of origin. The reduction in government budget expenditure of welfare and the increase in tuition fees to schools and universities have further encouraged the expansion of 'Industry of boda boda that is now over a thousand people.
